الإلحاق – “al-ilḥāq”

Definition: when a letter or two is added to a base form, to bring it to another pattern, making it similar to a second word in terms of: 1. Number of letters; 2. Types of حركات; 3. And the rules that apply to all the various forms of that word. For verbs, this would include the conjugation of its ماضي, مضارع, and أمر forms, its اسمي الفاعل and المفعول, and its مصدر. For an اسم, it would be its تصغير and تكسير

Examples: قردد- pattern of فعلل, originally قاف راء دال.
