How do we treat others equitably and fairly? This edited translation focuses on the virtues of transacting, on what it means to be a good buyer and seller of commodities and goods. Drawing from a classical legal text by ʿAllamah al-Ḥilli, it attempts to draw out the ethical from the legal, the akhlaq from the fiqh as it relates to commercial transactions.

This is the first in an installment of Occasional Papers that will explore the roots and developments of some of the community’s important institutions. In this issue, we begin the series with the ḥawzah in Medina, NY, as remembered by its head from 1988-1997, Shaykh Amir Mukhtar Faezi.
